Hi friends,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! What a wonderful gift to be able to write those words. We made it to another year, and we should not take that lightly.
I love this time of year. The in-between times where I can pretend that I too am busy with holiday preparations and parties. Truth be told, I shut out all of the holiday madness and instead treat myself to long soaks in the hot springs, road trips, journaling, skiing, and re-imagining my world. Everything feels possible and there’s a renewed sense of energy.
It’s my annual opt-out of feeling guilty about not participating in the daily grind—checking emails, sending emails, responding to texts, picking up the phone, attending gatherings, posting on social, and writing for anyone but me. I assume people don’t even notice—or don’t have the time to be bothered—by just how anti-social I become during a time when peak engagement is the expectation. If I’m wrong about this, please let me be right.
Since the Winter Solstice, I’ve filled journals, recorded voice notes I’m afraid to listen to, and created Notion pages to map out my year. I’ve also been compiling my list of Ins & Outs—some are observations and others are personal—and they are all very much an indication of my 2025 mood.
Out
The labor of self-documentation
Succumbing to the pressure
Feeling guilty about student loan debt
Startups
Stuck on old routines
Public-facing DEI
Mainstream media
Doing what you think you should
Everything Elon
New resolutions
Disengaging

Thinking you can’t make a difference
Buying poorly made shit that you’ll thrift or dump in six months
Conjuring up more ways to feel shitty about yourself
In
Deleting social media
Being kind to yourself
Paying the government as little as possible until we get our rights back
Micro-businesses
Experimenting
Social change as a way of life
Getting your news from Substack

Investing in what you love and what will last
Being more of yourself
I’d love to hear from you—what’s on your list of Ins and Outs?
Over the next few weeks and months I’ll be diving into these more with a monthly Mutual Aid group to support, how to integrate social change into your daily life, how to get the fuck off social media, and more.
Until next time…

🏔️ Vail Resorts can’t get it right and I can’t understand why people thought they would. The good news is their profit-over-people approach is being deeply scrutinized by more than just their own ski patrol. Get the latest on how Park City Ski Patrol's strike is gaining more support.
