An Unhinged Gift Guide

If you’re like me, you have yet to finish your holiday shopping, despite the incessant number of gift guide emails you’ve received in the past week. It’s not that any of them are bad—in fact I’ve found some cute things for myself. It’s that they all seem so refined, so opposite of the great unraveling of late-stage capitalism we’re witnessing all around us. Like who you foolin’, we all read the news! Or we’re on the Toks, same same.
Because I couldn’t help myself or my mood, I thought I’d create my own Unhinged Gift Guide, full of offerings from small businesses doing big things:

A watermelon hair claw from women + AAPI owned We Are Chimmi made by immigrants because it’s fun to explain why you purchased something and from whom at the family dinner table
A ski trip with your new besties stateside because everyone knows better than to let you leave the country
This illustrated journal featuring 50 Feminist Mantras by Amelia Hruby because we can use a little support in radically disrupting patriarchy, white supremacy, and capitalism

🚩 Tsk, tsk The North Face. The problem with your collab with Skims isn’t in the style, it’s that you missed the red flags like that their environmental and social partnerships” webpage led to a “404 page not found” error. No reason for us to shame women for wanting to wear what they like and what feels good to them when there are real reasons to question this partnership. (Side note: If this is your style, buy something from the small, women-owned brand Halfdays.)
